Cali, May 20, 2021 – Some 3,200 tons of cargo were transported in the last hours through the roads of Valle del Cauca in two caravans of trucks that were accompanied by the Army and the National Police.
Basic necessities, foodstuffs, animal feed and spare parts were transported mainly between Buenaventura and Cali in some 80 cargo vehicles with a capacity of 30 to 40 tons each.
These caravans were coordinated by the Ministry of Defense, the Southwest Joint Command No.1 and the National Police.
General Álvaro Vicente Pérez Durán, Commander of Joint Command No. 2 of the Southwest, highlighted the way in which these caravans activate the logistics chain in Valle del Cauca, Nariño and Cauca, as well as guaranteeing the transfer of cargo to the center of the country.
«The most important thing is to maintain the logistic chain in Valle, Cauca, Nariño, as well as guaranteeing the transfer of cargo to the center of the country», said General Perez Duran.
During the tour, soldiers who participated in the accompaniment unblocked sections of the roads to Cali where some barricades remained installed.
«They are clearing and this way one is more confident, because one cannot do it alone», said Humberto Franco, driver of one of the vehicles that were accompanied.
Upon their arrival in Cali, several of the truck drivers thanked the security forces for their accompaniment and agreed in requesting that more caravans of this type be carried out.
